Shantero Productions presents THE BARRA MacNEILS

Saturday, June 2 – 7:30pm

Reserved Seating $57.50 (HST included, $5.00 handling surcharge EXTRA)

On The Bright Side

Tickets On Sale Friday, March 23rd!

The Barra MacNeils are touring this spring in support of their latest release On The Bright Side, an exquisite collection of everything their fans love. It’s an upbeat album, with fiddle tunes that you know will erupt into a flurry of step-dancing on stage. When Lucy sings the heart-wrenching Ribhinn Donn, whether or not you ‘have the Gaelic’, have a tissue handy. You’ll need it. The distinctive family harmonies; an array of rhythmic instruments weaving through and around various themes—some decidedly classical but then, suddenly, very traditional Cape Breton; the lads singing a cappella; a thoughtful solo gradually merging into a frenzied all-hands-on-deck medley … it exudes the passion and energy familiar to anyone who has ever experienced The Barra MacNeils stage show. For the unfamiliar, critical acclaim says it all: “a treasure of the East Coast, rich with tradition and unmatched in ensemble performance.” … “The Barra MacNeils capture the feeling of ‘close your eyes and you’re there’.” … “They play what they like and folks like what they play.” … “Moments of beauty as well as raucous memories like this can linger forever.”

As always, the five MacNeil siblings—Lucy, Boyd, Stewart, Kyle and Sheumas—combine on a vast array of instruments including accordian, guitar, piano, fiddle, bodhran, mandolin, banjo, Celtic harp, tin whistles, bouzouki, flute … underpinned by the nimble-fingered Jamie Gatti on bass. If you’ve ever been wowed by their Christmas show, be prepared to have the wow factor raised exponentially as the band is unleashed from the strictures of the season. “Nothing but dumbstruck awe.” Don’t miss On The Bright Side with The Barra MacNeils!

Reserved seating tickets for The Barra MacNeils—On The Bright Side are $57.50 (tax and facility fees included, additional on line or phone order surcharges may apply), go on sale Friday, March 23rd, and are available from the box offices listed below. See this hilarious comedy set to all the hits of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s.

By Sarah Quick and Globus Theatre

June 12th-16th, 2018

A clever production with tons of heart, a hilarious and thoughtful comedy, in which the four actors perform nearly 30 unique characters — sometimes in the same scene — in a tribute to the seniors’ bus tour industry. It is all about snowbirds heading off to Florida on a coach tour!
In Sunshine Express, the audience is welcomed aboard a “Charlie Cheetles Charters” tour bus going from Ontario to Florida and back. Their tour guide for the trip is the warm and welcoming Sandy and friendly and enthusiastic bus driver Tommy. The trip is seen through the eyes of Alan and Brenda, a couple dealing with the daily stresses of kids, money, and the Canadian recession. When Alan turns 40, a well-meaning elderly aunt books the couple onto a seniors’ tour bus down to the Sunshine State.
Boarding a bus filled with eccentric elderly characters, the couple initially seems out of place and Alan’s jaded skepticism about the entire trip is noted. Soon they experience border crossings, lemon smuggling, southern breakfasts, Wal-Mart visits, Happy Hour, Bingo, sing-a-longs, and the politics of getting back to the bus on time and the “slow clap.”
As their journey goes deeper into the American South, Alan and Brenda realize that — despite the age gap — they aren’t that different from their elderly traveling companions, and they discover you’re never too old to make new friends and have a good time. Their journey is filled with laughter, love, and a lot of heart as Alan and Brenda discover the true magic of Charlie Cheetles Charters.

ACROSS THE POND – The British Invasion

July 10th-14th, 2018

From Leisa Way & Way-To-Go Productions

This music production celebrates 50 years of British pop and rock music, from those thrilling hits of the 1960s to today’s biggest stars. It features the music of the “Fab Four” (the Beatles), the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield and many more great artists, who came to North America from Britain and Europe. From the first few bars to the final chord, the audience is swept away on a fabulous musical adventure. Leisa is again backed up beautifully by her band of talented musicians who, on several numbers, take over the vocals while she makes one of several costume changes. Joining her on stage, are Bobby Prochaska of Toronto, bass and lead vocals; Fred Smith of Kitchener, guitars and lead vocals; Nathan Smith of North Bay, fiddle, guitars, mandolin and lead vocals; Bruce Ley of Mulmur (near Shelburne), piano, guitars and lead vocals; and Sam Cino of Guelph, drums and lead vocals. Mixed in with the phenomenal music, is a great narrative about the “British Invasion.” You’ll learn that Paul McCartney wrote a song for British pop duo Peter and Gordon (Peter Asher and Gordon Waller) to record, and it ended up knocking the Beatles’ top hit off the charts, along with other music history facts. The show contains a wide variety of music, superbly performed by this group of Collingwood favourites!

August 3rd, 2018

Ron Sexsmith’s status as one of the greatest songwriters of his generation has never been in doubt, even from the moment he released his self-titled major-label debut album in 1995. His career arc since then has in some ways been a study in how that pure ability has been handled in the studio. The Historic Gayety Theatre welcomes the masterful Canadian songsmith, Ron Sexsmith on Friday, August 3rd, 2018. Tickets go on sale on Friday, May 11th at 10AM. Tickets can be purchased at www.gayetytheatre.com or 1-888-353-3203.

On his 12 albums, Sexsmith has worked with some of music’s most celebrated producers—Daniel Lanois, Mitchell Froom, Tchad Blake, Ray Kennedy, Martin Terefe, Bob Rock and Jim Scott. With all of that experience, it would stand to reason that Sexsmith has learned a thing or two over the years about how to make a record.
